The mind of man plans his way,
But the LORD directs his steps.
Proverbs 16:9
Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4

From our birth we are taught to dream. The Rodgers and Hammerstein lyric is deeply embedded in the thought process of nearly all the Western world:
Climb every mountain, search high and low
Follow every byway, every path you know
Climb every mountain, ford every stream
Follow every rainbow, till you find your dream
In this context, dreams are things that we hold most dear in our hearts. We are told to cherish them, to breathe life into them, and place our highest hopes in them.
Don’t buy it.
Incorporate God into your “dreams” and place him at the utmost of your hopes and desires.
Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.”
James 4:13-15
Whether it involves choices for employment, decisions about future travels, or a heartfelt affection for another person – the manifestation of all our desires is determined not by our own will, action, or intuition – but by the Divine hand.
Embrace this hand, for it protects you and all others who place their faith in it.
