There are at least three reasons I want to avoid it.
1. The constant ads for “finding someone” online at true.com or some other singles place. Anyone, Christian or not, who is sincerely trying to be content with their unmarried status is constantly told this is not good enough.
2. It’s just too easy to be decieved. It becomes that much harder to stay away from the wrong people.
Proverbs 5:8-9 Keep your way far from her And do not go near the door of her house,
Or you will give your vigor to others And your years to the cruel one… (NASB)
3. It’s too easy to become self-absorbed. Myspace is very much about constructing your own image, refining it, and aligning it with other people’s images. This isn’t true for everyone, but the allure of doing so is unavoidable.
Philippians 2:3 Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves…(NASB)
I do have Myspace. I’m weaning myself off it though
